Do you mean hysteresis effect or hysteresis phenomena?
hysteresis phenomena is making an offset between turning ON and Turning Off, so turning on is normally farther than turning Off
In Electricity for example if increasing voltage above a certain limit should turn a device ON, say at 5 volts then turning off would be at say 4.5 volts

Its effect is to eliminate noise and erratic action at turn on limit
