TDI: Turbocharged Direct Injection in general, and VW uses it to denote their turbo diesels. For gas engines like the Mazda, Turbocharged Direct Injection gives very precise fuel control for good mileage and performance.

i think cdi mean controlled diesel injection

and hdi High pressure Direct Injection. this is a Peugeot thing that increases fuel economy.
