Control your PC with any IR remote control.
If you have ever dreamed of controlling your own computer with a remote control you won't believe how simple it is to make this dream a reality.
This is what you will need:
1. Simple IR receiver (its schematic is shown above) that can be built for only a few dollars. It will use your PC's serial port (also known as RS232 or DB9-Female). You can find IR receiver at digikey.com for only $1.3. Here are few model numbers: GP1UM27RK, GP1UD26XK, GP1UD28YK, GP1UM26RK, GP1UD27XK. Just pick one of them, they will all work.
You can also use 7805 voltage regulator instead of 5.1V zener diode. Serial port has 10V output.
2. Download and install Girder program through which you will be able to control your programs and your operating system.
3. Download an Igor plugin to Girder program. This plugin will be used to recognize your homemade IR receiver. You will need to put this plugin in to your Girder plug in folder.
Have fun with controlling your PC!
